Meet Laura Simpkins, PhD Licensed Psychologist

Laura Simpkins, PhD, is a Louisiana Licensed Psychologist with more than 20 years of experience in psychological and psychoeducational assessment. Through Psychology Solutions, she helps children, adolescents, adults, and families understand their strengths, clarify concerns, and identify practical next steps.

Dr. Simpkins earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Louisiana Tech University and her Specialist in School Psychology degree from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Her background combines an understanding of learning and development with extensive experience assessing cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning.

Her career includes work as a school psychologist in Caddo and DeSoto Parish school systems, assessment in private clinical settings, and service as Director of Psychological Services at Holy Angels Residential Facility. These experiences inform her understanding of how assessment findings can guide educational supports, behavioral interventions, and clinical care.

Since 2019, Dr. Simpkins has served as a staff psychologist at Barksdale Air Force Base Mental Health Clinic. Her work includes psychological evaluations to clarify complex diagnoses and guide treatment, evidence-based psychotherapy, professional consultation, and clinician training.

At Psychology Solutions, each evaluation is tailored to the individual’s concerns and referral questions. Dr. Simpkins integrates interviews, background history, standardized testing, questionnaires, and relevant records to develop a comprehensive understanding of strengths and difficulties. Clients receive a detailed written report and a feedback meeting to discuss findings and individualized recommendations.
